"Made in China" 4/4/08

When looking for a manufacturer for my jerseys, the temptation was great to have it done in China. The pricing could not be beat and I thought, "Hey, everybody else is doing it." But visions of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and the injustices in Tibet come to mind and I find myself in a moral dilemma. I have no issue with the people of China; my issue is with the politics. I cannot support a system that functions by altering or suppressing the truth from its people. "Made in China" cannot, realistically, be avoided. Our society thrives on a plentiful supply of inexpensive merchandise and China excels in its ability to meet our demands. Right now, I am writing from a MacBook Pro that was assembled in China. I'm no saint, am quite aware our own political shortcomings, and definitely not in the position to judge companies that have dealings with China. This is a personal decision and, in small part, my way of standing up for the people of China and Tibet. Now, lets talk about religion. Just kidding.
